Volunteering
Have you ever thought of becoming a volunteer?
The museum is owned and funded by the Town Council and is managed by a full-time Curator with support from a part-time Administrator and many hard working volunteers.
What do we do?
The museum opens to the public from mid-March-end of October, with an addition of a new exhibition each year. During the closure period the volunteers work on the collections. Volunteers come in all ages, sizes with a vast array of knowledge and skills.
The museum organises a Museum Friends Group and an ex-Railway man’s club. When extra funding is available, we stage events and exhibitions within the town and surrounding area on a local history theme.
We work closely with Teignbridge Museums Group and the Devon Museums Group and attend Regional meetings and training days.
What are the perks of being a volunteer?
Being a museum volunteer gives you free membership to the ‘Museum Friends’ group, which enables you to attend 9 lectures a year held in the evenings, once a month; and to attend private views of new exhibitions.
Other benefits include:-
- meeting new people
- communicating with visitors,
- sharing life skills and interests
- being part of a friendly local community
All are welcome to join in with this small, but very active museum!
Give us a ring on 01626 201121 if you are interested in getting involved and we can discuss the possibilities.
