Heritage Store - Information Day

Monday 31st August 2026, 11:00am-4:30pm

(L-R) Gary Bendelow, Kelmend Jata and Vince Thorne of Classic Builders, Cllr Louise Cooke in the digger, Museum Assistant Lucy Cokes, Curator Joanna Eccles and Deputy Town Clerk Sam Scott | NATC

The £1.2 million project will provide the Museum with a new, temperature-controlled collections store, giving us the space and environmental conditions needed to care for Newton Abbot’s heritage for generations to come. It will also bring our collections back from additional off-site storage and create new opportunities for the community to access and engage with them.

The project has been made possible through generous funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Swire Charitable Trust and the Garfield Weston Foundation, alongside museum donations and earmarked reserves. This means the project is fully funded and will bring more than £1 million of investment into Newton Abbot.

As construction gets under way, we would like to invite local residents to an Information Day at Newton Abbot Museum on 31st August between 11am-4:30pm.

This will be an opportunity to find out more about the project, meet members of the Museum team and ask any questions you may have about the work taking place.

Join us for:

  • A behind-the-scenes glimpse into the Museum’s collection
  • Guided tours of our collections store
  • A creative, hands-on workshop
  • Information about the construction programme and what to expect during the works
  • The opportunity to ask questions about the project and speak to members of the Museum team
